Child Pornography and allegations of sexual misconduct over the Internet

The FBI has arrested over 500 alleged "sexual predators" in the past two years. A special FBI program aimed a curbing perceived internet stalkers, sexual predators and owners of child pornography has resulted in 407 searches and 192 convictions. Most of the convictions are against people who use online services to recruit children into illicit sexual relationships and those who distribute pornographic images of children.

The near hysteria and media attention lavished on these cases makes defending them difficult and complex. The government often does not have enough evidence to prove that a crime has been committed. Much of the alleged child pornography is legal and widely available on the internet. So-called "downloading" of these images usually involves simply looking at them since most brower software will download them by merely viewing them online. Many of the encounters in cyberstalking cases- often online chat and email are voluntary and consensual and do not involve illegal acts or intent to engage in illegal conduct. Many of the cases involve issues of government entrapment. Yet the prosection of these cases is usually vigorous. These cases require experienced representation.
